Theo Tams: On His Way To The Canadian Idol Top Ten And Beyond

Posted in Canadian Idol, Entertainment, Masterclass Lady, Music, Rosanne Simunovic, Vocal Tips by masterclasslady on July 2nd, 2008

The more I think about it, the more I realize that Theo Tams is in a league of his own. Not only did he give a spectacular performance during his Top 20 showcase, but also he emerged as an articulate, genuine and passionate artist.

However, more so than any other contestant, he displayed stellar musical talent and confirmed this fact by admitting that he never pursued any formal training in piano. Really? Could have fooled me. He manoeuvers the keys with finesse and musicality, validating my personal conviction that he is an inherently gifted musician.

Vocally, his voice is strong - extremely potent; however, he has yet to master the art of sustaining his vocal sound through a consistently circular mouth formation. Hopefully, this technical glitch will correct itself over the next few weeks. That horizontal mouth position is making me very nervous, as it puts undue strain on his vocal cords.

Additionally, he needs to relax his shoulders when playing the piano; his hunched posture contributes negative factors to his overall vocal production and diminishes the full effect of the diaphragmatic breathing process.

However, given all of this, he is a star and will keep the other competitors on their toes throughout the rest of this competition.

Vocal Masterclass Discussion For Canadian Idol Top 20 Performances

Posted in Canadian Idol, Entertainment, Masterclass Lady, Music, Rosanne Simunovic by masterclasslady on July 2nd, 2008

Canadian Idol
Well, well - looks like we have some real winners on our hands early on in this Canadian Idol Season.

Who might they be? Well, according to moi, they be pretty well everyone from Group 2 minus four exceptions.

However, 22-year-old Theo Tams from Lethbridge Alberta and 29-year-old Omar Lunan from Scarborough, Ontario were phenomenal x2. Both of these singers brought something truly special to their Top 20 performances this week - stellar vocals, superb artistry, dynamic song choice - resulting in extremely memorable and noteworthy performances.

I would also like to mention others who, in varying degrees and for an assortment of reasons, peaked my interest - 23-year-old Earl Stevenson from Lloydminster, Alberta; 25-year-old Sebastien Pigott from Toronto Ontario, 27-year-old Oliver Pigott from Toronto, Ontario, 19-year-old Katelyn Dawn from winnipeg Manitoba, 19-year-old Amberly Thiessen from Seven Persons, Alberta and 22-year-old Mitch MacDonald from Halifax, Nova Scotia.

And so, it seems I have chosen my personal Top 8. I will leave it to the rest of you to fill in the blanks for the remaining two Masterclass spots.

Have fun and please respect all the singers and their fans when leaving your commentary.

Canadian Idol Season 6 Top 24
Hey all you Canadian Idol fans! I need your help here! I wasn’t able to watch the Top 24 performances of Canadian Idol, so I have no idea what happened.

So, until I have an opportunity to watch the YouTube video content, please share your comments.

Who were your favorites and why? Who has the best technique? The best charisma? The best artistry? The entire package? Go nuts - but, in keeping with the vibe of this site, be respectful of the singers and their fans.

David Archuleta Performs “Stand By Me” On The View

Posted in American Idol, Entertainment, Masterclass Lady, Music, Rosanne Simunovic, Vocal Tips by masterclasslady on June 25th, 2008

Mmm, mmm mmm - that was one luscious performance of “Stand By Me” on The View. David’s pure and immaculate vocal quality remained a stunning presence throughout this showcase. His ascending and descending runs were technically and artistically secure, perfectly centered and phrased with an intelligent musical approach.

I loved the head voice toward the end of this song - wasn’t that gorgeous? And then, to emerge from the sustained quality of his head voice and manoeuver yet another vocal run in a descending direction, was a final testament to the strength of his technical skills and the diligent preparatory approach he has toward his music.

My only worry -periodically, I noticed his mouth adopting a horizontal formation and this made me very nervous. Sometimes, during performances, fatigue factors into the equation, so maybe his diaphragmatic breathing muscles were having an “off” day.

However, I loved the new, mature version of this song and the little gleam in his eye when he started the line “beautiful ladies”. Oh, little David, you are going to break hearts over the course of time! :)

David Cook Performs “Time Of My Life” On The View

Posted in American Idol, Entertainment, Masterclass Lady, Rosanne Simunovic by masterclasslady on June 25th, 2008

I didn’t have a chance to watch the entire interview, but I thought I would upload David’s performance of “Time Of My Life” on The View.

At first I didn’t recognize the song. David performed a totally new acoustic version of this number. It was quite good. but, man, did he look tired or what? And the sound coming through my speakers was quite horrendous - not his fault, I know -but, I would be curious to know if others were experiencing sound issues with this video recording.

Although his voice was a bit rough around the edges, probably due to fatigue and, perhaps, complete boredom with having to perform this song countless number of times, I still appreciate the fact that he uses a pretty solid technical foundation in his vocal approach to rock music. Good for him! I hope that he will continue to hone his technical skills over the long run, as his voice, when used correctly, can be pure magic.

Part of me senses that he is missing the creative aspect or performing and, hopefully, we will see all of that during the live tour. Bravo David!

Video Of The Day: Clay Aiken On Jay Leno

Posted in American Idol, Entertainment, Masterclass Lady, Music by masterclasslady on June 23rd, 2008

I just found this video this morning and it put a smile on my face. I happened to miss Clay Aiken’s appearance on Jay Leno, but, I have to say, this guy is a so funny and so talented.

Check out the beautiful head voice that he uses at the beginning of his performance of his new single, “On My Way Here”. Stellar, just stellar! The whole performance was quite remarkable.

And he is such a comedic - very quick and sharp witted. I think he and Jay Leno were having the time of their lives. Would that all guests could be as easy to interview as Clay. His interaction with Jay Leno appeared so effortless and spontaneous.

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Thank You Gail Hyatt and The Entire David Archuleta Fanblast Community

David Archuleta

What a great evening I had last night! I was the guest of honor of a live blog interview format over at David Archuleta’s Fanblast Site. It was a great deal of fun and those Archuelta fans kept me very busy with their very intuitive questions, many of which were spontaneously presented.

However, leading up to the live chat, many fans decided to give me a “heads up” and submitted their questions in advance.

Our talented and extremely organized moderator, Gail Hyatt, decided to have a mix of both questions and I hope that, despite the typos, I made myself clearly understood. You could really feel the virtual excitement and mayem in this chatroom, so, at times, it was overwhelming - but in a fun way!

I wish I could have addressed all of your questions and, hopefully, at some point, I will be able to do so.

However, for now, I would like to extend my warmest THANK YOU to the entire Fanblast Community and to the lovely Gail Hyatt for making this event come together in such a memorable fashion.

And how can I forget our rising star, David Archuleta? Without his enormous talent and genuine charisma, none of this would have been possible. He is indeed a role model for all generations - a real gem!
